Bloody MacKenzie is the most famous and dangerous ghost of Greyfriars Kirkyard in Edinburgh, one of the most haunted graveyard of Scottland.
During his lifetime, this spirit was a Scottish lawyer from the 17th century named Sir George Mackenzie of Rosehaugh. He took part in the harsh repression of the covenantaires, Scottish Presbyterians who had opposed the Stuarts, and he proved so terribly cruel that he was nicknamed Bloody Mackenzie. Long after his death, his mausoleum was accidentally opened by a wanderer who wanted a shelter in 1998. This incident seems to have awakened Mackenzie's ghost. Since that night there have been numerous reports of attacks by an invisible force.
