Bloody Mary is populare urban legend about a spirit conjured to reveal the future. She is said to appear in a mirror when her name is chanted repeatedly and can be benign or malevolent to his summoner.

According to the original ritual, a young woman must walk up a flight of stairs backward holding a candle and a hand mirror, in a darkened house. As they gazed into the mirror, they were supposed to be able to catch a view of their future husband's face. There was, however, a chance that they would see a skull (or the face of the Grim Reaper) instead, indicating that they were going to die before they would have the chance to marry. Nowadays, The Bloody Mary allegedly appears to individuals or groups who ritualistically invoke her name 13 times. She appears to them as a corpse, witch, or ghost covered in blood and can be friendly or evil.

There is some debate on the identification of Bloody Mary and if she is based on a real woman. A number of historical figures like Mary I of England, Elizabeth Bathory or Mary Worth are regulary mentioned because of their bloody history.

Elle leur apparaît sous la forme d'un cadavre, d'une sorcière ou d'un fantôme couvert de sang et peut être amicale ou maléfique.

Il existe plusieurs théories sur les origines de Bloody Mary. Un certain nombre de personnages historiques tels que Marie Ire d'Angleterre, Elizabeth Bathory ou Mary Worth sont régulièrement mentionnés en raison de leur histoire sanglante.
