Hyakume is a strange yōkai covered from head to foot with countless blinking, yellow eyes. Underneath those eyes are fleshy, roughly man-sized body. With its eyes closed, it look like a pink lumps of flesh, and are nearly indistinguishable from nuppeppō. Hyakume make their homes in old temples, guarding them from would-be thieves during the night. During the day, the sky is too bright for their many sensitive eyes. They only come out at night, spending the lighter hours in dark and shadowy buildings where few humans ever go. These creature are shy and try to avoid human contact. When a human come to close to a Hyakume, one of its eyes will detach from its body and fly towards the person to spy him, and if it feels threatened, it jump out of the darkness in a menacing manner to scare humans away.

Hyakume est un étrange yōkai couvert de la tête aux pieds d'innombrables yeux jaunes clignotants. Sous ces yeux se cache un corps charnu, de taille humaine et à la forme grossière. Les yeux fermés, ils ressemblent à un tas de chair rose, et sont presque samblables au nuppeppō. Les Hyakume élisent domicile dans les vieux temples, qu'ils gardent contre les voleurs potentiels pendant la nuit. Le jour, le ciel est trop lumineux pour leurs nombreux yeux sensibles. Ils ne sortent que la nuit, passant les heures les plus claires dans les bâtiments sombres où peu d'humains se rendent. Ces créatures sont timides et essaient d'éviter tout contact humain. Lorsqu'un humain s'approche d'un Hyakume, un de ses yeux peut se détacher de son corps pour voler vers l'intrus pour l'épier, et s'il se sent menacé, il bondit hors de l'obscurité d'une manière menaçante pour le faire fuir.
